Short Story

Hey, I am writing a shorty story for a contest. I'm not sure what to call it but here it is. Make sure you comment! :)

I gazed into the new girl’s crystal clear blue eyes. She introduced herself as Kate. She said she was from Birmingham, Alabama. People snickered at her country accent. I didn’t mind her accent, I thought it was cute. When Mrs. Ray asked the class who would show Kate around school, my hand shot up immediately. Mrs. Ray ushered Kate to the empty seat beside. I gave her a flashy grin and said, “Hey, I’m Marcus. How are you doing.” I thought she’d like to see what good hospitality I had. She just giggled and tossed her sunshine blond hair. I couldn’t care less about the lesson on adverbs Mrs. Ray was droning on about, I was too distracted by Kate’s great looks and how we’d be going out in just a couple of days. My thoughts were interrupted by the piercing bell we had at Smith Middle School. I ran to catch up with Kate who had already left the classroom. “So, can I show you where your locker is, and carry your books,” I was babbling like an idiot so I slowed down and finished I mean if you want.” “Thanks” That’s all she said as she dumped all her textbooks on me. By the time we got to her locker I was panting. I decided to spring the question on her. “So Kate,” I started coolly, “I was wondering. Do you want to go out this Saturday? I know this great diner it’s called-” I stopped because she was laughing. “Why are you laughing?” I asked. “Because Marcus,” she was still trying to stifle her giggles, “I have a boyfriend.” She tossed her hair and walked into her next class.
